A Surrogacy arrangement occurs when a woman agrees in advance of a pregnancy to carry a child with the intention that that child should be brought up by another person from birth.This is not a new idea but technology has now enabled this arrangement to be undertaken so that the child born in this way has no genetic link to the woman who gives birth to the child and, unlike adoption, can allow the intended parents of the child to be related genetically to him or her. Louise Brown was the World's first test tube baby, born in the UK in July 1978. Since then technology has moved swiftly on and here in the UK we have been at the forefront of new procedures and improving rates of success.
